CORSICA NORTH-WESTERN DIRECTION

For your attention: on the West coast, the strong West and South wind is called the libeccio.
In the Cap Corse, the typical village of Centuri is located on the extreme west side of the Cap Corse. The small island of Capense forms an important anchorage place but dangerous by strong south west wind.
Be careful with the shallow close to Centuri.
Saint Florent is located at the end of a gulf. It is a small picturesque town. It is also the starting point of the coastline path along the Désert des Agriates. The environment is remarkable there with a lot of fine sandy beaches of whom the beach of Saleccio where the movie “The Longest day” was shot.
Calvi and its citadel is the “must-see” place as coming from Hyères harbour, the one of Calvi is the closest refuge. From the cove of Port Man head for 104. Even by West wind, the cove of Calvi is well protected and owns regulated buoys if the harbour is full.

Between Calvi and Porto you will find the reserve of Scandola. This natural reserve is listed as a UNESCO world heritage. It is a massif of purple rocks. Don’t miss out the peninsula of Girolata. The colour of the cliff makes this landscape really amazing. If you are lucky you may see a golden eagle, peregrine falcon. They elect to live in these cliffs. The seabed is packed with numerous species and it is highly recommended for snorkelling. It is recommended doing this coast by good weather in order to appreciate every cove and to peacefully observe this heaven.
Between Porto and Cargèse are located the rocky inlets of Piana, they are listed as a UNESCO world heritage. The needs are over more 300 metres above the sea level.
As the city of Ajaccio approaches, you catch sight the Îles Sanguinaires. Seagulls and cormorants take up residence on these red rocks renowned for its wonderful sunset.

The Strait of Bonifacio is located in the extreme south of Corsica. It is composed of big limestone cliffs absolutely amazing. Don’t miss out the isles Lavezzi.

CORSICA EASTERN DIRECTION

Corsica east coast is more flat and lined with its beautiful long beaches. It is well protected from west wind. However, you must go in a harbour when there is east wind.
Half way between Bonifacio and Portovecchio in the south east of Corsica, don”t miss out the beaches of Palombaggia, Santa Giulia and Rondinara. These places look like heave and are just as good as tropics ones.
Then you will find the harbour of Solenzara, and above, the city of Bastia.
While you are sailing up the cape Corsica, you will find a lot of shingle beaches ornamented with Genoese towers and pretty villages such as Erbalunga. All along this cost you have little anchorages, but you must avoid them when there is east wind.
Close to the cape Corsica, further north, you will let yourself be charmed by Macinaggio harbour, the biggest harbour of the cape. A coastal control path awaits you in order to discover the fauna and flora plus the wild at the cape end.
